Pingtung Agriculture Biotechnology Park blends aquaculture and greenhouses (2014/03/17)

The Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park has created Taiwan’s first integrated aquaculture farm and greenhouse. It uses an ingenious process where wastewater from the aquaculture ponds can be used to raise saltwater crops.

Advancements in farm technology have led the Pingtung Agricultural Biotechnology Park to create these aquaculture ponds that are integrated with a nearby greenhouse. This temperature controlled environment is especially suited to breeding valuable fish species.

After treating the wastewater from our fish tanks, we can use this water to grow seaweed.

Using marine aquaculture wastewater to raise red algae requires only about half a month before it is ready to harvest. While relatively high investments are needed, risks are lower than traditional aquaculture methods.

This type of environmental controlled area has a higher initial investment, but there is less risk of natural disaster or disease disaster when compared to outdoor ponds. When you take the lower risk into account, the costs are actually lower.

Maintaining tight control over the entire production process can even create healthier images for food brands, potentially endearing them to higher-spending consumers.

溫室大漁場

利用海水魚養殖廢水澆灌的海木耳,大約半個月到一個月之間就能收成,雖然成本較高,但風險也比傳統養殖低。

我們這樣的環控模式,除了初期投資成本比較高以外,它反而比室外的養殖池減少更多天然災害跟疾病災害,所以真的算成本的話,反而是因為這樣子,風險是更低的。

嚴密控管生產環節,打造健康食材的品牌形象,企圖吸引金字塔頂端的消費者青睞。
