Cloud Gate members describe upcoming production ‘Little Dusts’ (2014/08/18)

The spate of recent deadly disasters resonates in a new Cloud Gate Theatre production that opens later this year. “Little Dusts” will examine the triviality of life.

As these dancers open their mouths to emit a silent shout, they wear an expression of pain. This is one of two new dances Cloud Gate will premiere in November. The cry of terror is a response to the insignificance of mankind.

Artistic director Lin Hwai-min laments the frequency of recent disasters. Speaking of them brought tears to his eyes.

In the face of this kind of situation, terror or pain, we can only speak of the pain that we feel in our hearts.

A dancer described the impact of the somber music.

During this dance, we must discard our feelings. We must demand that the rhythm and timing of our movements are precise. The greatest challenge on stage is how you can resist the music.

A decade ago, Lin decided to create a complete work based on this music. In the process, he described the impermanence of the world.

林懷民新作

雲門舞集創辦人林懷民，今天發表兩齣全新作品。現場舞者用身體語言，無聲吶喊，令人動容，也讓林懷民心情激動，談起高雄氣爆災情，甚至一度紅了眼眶。

十幾位舞者張嘴嘶吼，臉上露出痛苦的表情，無聲吶喊。這是雲門舞集將在十一月推出的雙舞作品之一，感嘆眾生如塵埃般渺小。

藝術總監林懷民感嘆近來國內外災禍頻傳，說著不禁紅了眼眶。

面對這樣的一個局面，面對這樣的恐怖，面對這樣的苦痛，我們只能說我們知道，我們心裡也很痛。

舞者們也提到，在練舞的過程中，會受到沉重音樂的影響。

在跳這個舞的時候，我們必須拋棄情緒，要求自已在動作上，節奏時間上面很精準。最大挑戰就是在舞台上，你怎麼跟音樂抵抗。

十年前，林懷民就想把這音樂編成舞作，展現出人世無常。
