Many complain that low Taipei-Tokyo fares are too good to be true (2012/10/09)
Not everyone is enamored with these budge airlines. Some are offering unbelievable cheap airfares that seem almost too good to be true. Many customers complain it’s nearly impossible to book the low advertised rates.
Singapore’s Scoot Airlines is offering a special promotion to celebrate its new route out of Taoyuan International Airport. These low fares were an attempt to gain market share, with one-way Taipei to Tokyo fares costing NT$1,998 beginning on Oct. 3. Since launching this promotion, the airlines may have been caught off guard by the overwhelming consumer response.

Sharon was not alone in her inability to secure a ticket. Many consumers lodged a protest on Scoot Airlines’ Facebook page. They complained that they had repeatedly tried to book a ticket but couldn’t get through on the phone, making it impossible to cancel duplicate bookings. Some worried they entered their names incorrectly but couldn’t contact anyone to help them.

Last Friday more than 2,000 complaints were received. Because this is a no frills airline, there were few staff to answer the phones and many conditions applied to the tickets, leading many to be unhappy.
