Precipitation continues to batter Taiwan (2013/05/21)
Forecasters warn that torrential rain could continue to fall during the next couple daysovermuch of Taiwan. A briefbreakisexpected on Friday before the arrival of another plum rainfront.
A plum rain frontpacked with moisturedrenched Taiwanwith rain on Monday evening. But its effects were felthalf a daylater thanforecasters had predicted. The front had been pulled apart by a low pressure system,splitting into two. It weakened though continued to bring precipitation to western Taiwan.

It was split to the east and remainsstationeryto the west. This is a common occurrence that brings localizedshowers, and sometimes extreme weather. It can lead to mistakes when trying topredict rainfall levels.
The “extremetorrential rain” that was expected will not arrive, but the weather remains shaky. Central and southernTaiwan continue to see heavy rain.
Chiayi had the most precipitation on Tuesday at 149 millimeters. Torrential rain also fell in Yunlin and Nantou.
Torrential rain warnings remain in effect for western and northeastern portions of the island.

The cloud band that will follow could still affect our weather. Afternoon convection currents will also cause intermittent rain.
Disaster prevention mechanisms will remain in effectthrough Thursday in central and southern regions. After a break from the rain on Friday and Saturday, a new weatherfront is expected to bring more showers at the end of the week.
