Comic book shops challenge traditional business model by offering DVD rentals (2013/12/16)
The downfall of local DVD rental shops is being accompanied by a rise in movie rentals by shops specializing in comic books. These providers of reading materials are turning into one-stop shops for family entertainment.

Believing that consumers may be uninterested in shuttling between stores, this chain decided to branch out into the DVD rental market. This particular store rents between 100 and 120 DVDs a day. Its collection of over 1,000 DVDs is not any smaller than a typical DVD shop.
Digital downloads along with comic book stores entering the market have led the number of Taiwan’s specialized DVD rental shops to decrease from more than 1,000 five years ago to less than 500. Most of the remaining DVD rental stores have had to alter their business model.
