To stop speculators from hoarding property, the government is mooting a rise in taxes on homes that do not serve as the owners’ main residence. This latest proposal to make housing more affordable comes after Premier Jiang Yi-huah said his two children would be unable to independently purchase a home.
Premier Jiang discussed the topic of high housing prices in a youth forum yesterday. Interior Minister Chen Wei-jen shared Jiang’s concerns and mentioned possible solutions.

Swedish and American a cappella groups will give a concert tomorrow in Taipei. This afternoon the groups held a dress rehearsal with members even previewing Chinese songs for fans.
Performing without any musical instruments, the Swedish a cappella group Vocal Six took to the stage. In their first show in Taiwan in nearly seven years, members of this group wore black suits and gave a breathtaking vocal performance.
The average age of members of this male group is 50, with many having 25 years of experience. They say performing Chinese songs is quite a challenge.

Business was affected at the popular mala hot pot chain Tripod King after a report alleged that its soup base, purported to be made with natural ingredients, actually contains processed foods. But one chain’s struggles are not expected to damage Taiwan’s love of mala and spicy hot pot.
Workers busily add soup base and ingredients to the hot pot. It’s past normal lunchtime hours but business is still booming.

A ceremony was held to celebrate National Chung Hsing University’s merger with the National Senior High School of Agriculture and Technology and National Dali High School. It is the first time in Taiwan that a university is merging with a high school and a vocational school.
The merger of the three schools in Taichung today led to the formation of the Affiliated Taichung Agricultural Senior High School of National Chung Hsing University. The university donated 300 young chicks to the high school to symbolize the spirit of agriculture that lives at its school.
Putting these chicks aboard an ox-cart, they depart from the university and are warmly welcomed by the high school students.
